Etiquette question

Well I don't know if it's etiquette per se, but here goes...

Is jewelry an appropriate gift for your boyfriends mother for Christmas? She's given me several pairs of earrings and a nice necklace, if that makes a difference.

Not that I think its a bad idea, if thats what you want to do go for it and it would be fine. I actually want to change my vote, I don't think there is anything wrong with it at all. Its quite thoughtful. Just don't get her any bling bling.

as a "Mom" who's kids have had the boyfriend . girlfriend thing jewelry is leaning towards the personal side and sometimes can make the "MOM" feel uncomfortable . I think it would be better to wait until you are engaged to start giving the very personal gifts . If she has hobbies like sewing , gardening , painting etc. why not a nice book on the subject . A nice blank journal book . If she has traveled someplace special like Europe there are some nice cocktail table books on those countries that have beautiful pictures and would remind her of their trip and you could write something nice on the inside cover . The 2 of you go for a nice lunch in old Annapolis , your treat . Sometimes "things" are not what "Mom's " want but would rather have the time together . That is if you would be comfortable with alone time to talk and get to know each other better. That's just my thoughts .....maybe I don't know what I'm talking about . I'm just a "MOM" !
