those cheese commercials are funny. i haven't seen one in a long time, but they still crack me up when i think about them.

last night Chris and i were watching Friends reruns when we saw a commercial for Bruce Almighty (the movie with Jim Carrey and Jennifer Aniston). somehow, i convinced Chris to go rent the movie from Blockbuster. behold my almighty power of persuasion. trust me, it had nothing to do with Chris wanting to see the movie. it was all me. anyway, i expected it to be a cheesy Jim Carrey movie, with stupid lines, a silly plot, and his kind of obnoxious behaviour dominating the movie. what it turned out to be, though, was a very interesting and deep movie if you looked at it right.

first of all, Jennifer Aniston plays Carrey's girlfriend. Her name is Grace. so, when he becomes God, she is "God's Grace" and later on Bruce admits that "Grace" is the most important thing in the world. now, if you weren't really up on the bible lingo, or maybe not such a regular church-goer, you might not get it, but for me, it sparked some interesting thoughts.

second, when Bruce gets his Godly powers and uses them to change things around-bringing the moon closer, causing a meteor to strike to get a news story-there are little snippets about how these seemingly innocent things that he's done for himself has caused mass destruction and problems for others around the world. i found that to be an interesting commentary on how God can't just do as he pleases and try to always make Himself happy, because everything He does will affect the world. He always puts everyone else before Him. and i mean, i know He's God, but still...to do that every day for eternity? that's something to think about.

the third thing that i thought was most interesting was that Bruce is actually a better and more God-like person BEFORE he gets these powers. when he was just a regular Joe Schmoe, he would help people out, he was nice to everyone, and he tried his hardest to be a good person. once he was God, though, all of that changed. maybe i read into that WAAAAAY to deep, but i decided that it was a comment on how regular, ordinary people can be God-like and bring joy and happiness that is more recognizeable to people than God will ever do answering prayers. (yeah, i definitely think i read into that, but it's MY journal, and i'll post what i want to. =P)

so it was a good movie and brought up some interesting points and was pretty entertaining while doing so. i have to say that i enjoyed it. the movie ended kinda late for me-10:30-so it was off to the shower, then getting ready for bed. i turned on the MD basketball game against Wis-CAHN-sin (as i say it!) and it was such a good game that i got sucked into it. after watching the Terps finally beat the Badgers in overtime, i finally went to bed around midnight. you can just call me Aurora today. (that's Sleeping Beauty's name. since i'm sleepy. and a beauty. and princess-ish. WORK WITH ME HERE PEOPLE!) hopefully today won't drag on too long, and i can go to volleyball then go home and SLEEP! is it sad that the only way i get through my day is "12 more hours until bedtime..."
