it's been a while
Nov. 17th, 2003 09:19 am(and now i have that staind song in my head. great.)
since ya'll have now been *gasp* almost 3 days without a posting from me, let me bring you up to date.
thursday afternoon:
well you heard on thursday morning how it was crazy windy. what you didn't hear was that it got so windy that afternoon that we lost power here at work. unfortunately, we have skylights and the phone system didn't go down, so we didn't get to leave early. boo. dan came over for Friends and ER, but sadly enough, the most exciting part was the preview for this week's ER. we flipped back and forth from NBC to the MD v. UVA game. WOO HOO!!! GO TERPS!! (we won, in case that wasn't painfully obvious.)
friday:
get to work-still no power. which means no computers, no lights, and no heat. but lo and behold, the friggin phone lines STILL work. which means we can't leave, which is some BS if i ever heard it. i sat at my desk in a long sleeve shirt, a fleece, a winter coat and a scarf to answer the phones. i would have worn my mittens, but i can't hit the transfer buttons with them on. at about 10, my boss told me i could leave-to go run errands for him. (personal errands, nonetheless.) however, my car has heat, my car has fun music, and i had some errands to run as well....so off i go. i got back at about 12:30, and proceeded to take my hour lunch break. by 3:30, it was dark enough that i didn't want to sit at my desk anymore, so i went down to the other office where everyone else had gathered. after an hour of NOTHING-no phone calls, no one doing any work, NOTHING-i finally convinced my boss to let us go early. go me.
instead of going straight home, i went to VEIP to get my emissions checked-and proceeded to hit rush hour in annapolis. it took me 20 minutes to go 2/10 of a mile. then i got to the VEIP place-where i was the ONLY car (sweet!!)-and the guy almost wouldn't take my check-because my mom's name is on the title and my name is on the check and they're different. um, HELLO, as long as it's getting paid for, who cares who pays for it?? lucky for me, the guy noticed that we had the same last name, so he decided that it was probably ok to take my check after all. ya think? i don't really remember what i did on friday night-i think i just watched a Sex in the City dvd. it was rather boring, to say the least.
saturday:
i took my computer and a load of stuff home from my parents house. since i wasn't having the best week ever, i also brought back my blender and a bottle of rum. i stopped at a few place on my way home to look for a palm tree lamp but alas, none was to be found. so sad. kymmy came over for pizza, drinks, and lots of talking about things, which was sooo exactly what i needed. she left and i popped in The Royal Tennenbaums, but i fell asleep halfway through, so turned it off. i watched SNL for a little bit-that show has gone TOTALLY downhill, anyone else noticed?-and then flipped to the cosby show. i finally gave up and went to bed around 1.
sunday:
i went to church and *SURPRISE!* joey and big joe were there! we sat with chris for the service, and afterwards joey showed me his (HOT!!) new Saturn Ion. now, i've been looking at new cars, and his finally convinced me that YES, i want a new car and a Saturn is looking better and better. i told him he has to take me out in his new car sometime soon. (if i only want to hang out with people because they have hot cars, does that make me a car slut? luckily, i actually enjoy spending time with joe, so this doesn't apply. at least not 100%)
our church puts together gift bags for kids whose parents are in jail, and chris and i both picked up the names of 2 boys. we decided to go shopping for our stuff right away, so we headed off to crofton. i had picked a 1 year old and a 5 year old, so i got to drool over all of the abosulutely adorable wittle baby stuff...SO not a good idea for me! i picked a Hot Wheels toothbrush for the 5 year old, and it was sooo cute. chris pointed out the Barbie toothbrush and Disney Princess toothpaste, but i'm still eating my Disney Princess fruit snacks from the last time he convinced me that i just HAD to indulge myself in my princess fantasy world, so i took a pass. for now. i may be going back this evening...
after that, i watched a heart-wrenching Redskins game, and then finished The Royal Tennenbaums. youth group was rather entertaining, as we played a game that involved throwing a rolled-up sock at goals and i hit another counselor in the face and knocked his glasses off...whoops, my bad. after UMYF, i just came home and went to bed. damn, i AM getting old.
today:
looks to be an ok day. obviously, the power is back up and running. i finished everything that had piled up on my desk from thursday and friday by about 8:45, the phones haven't been that busy, and no one knows where the boss is since he isn't here and isn't answering his cell phone...i'm meeting george in CP after work during his office hours, and then we might grab dinner or something. i can't stay too long since i'm still watching annie. the parental units will be home tomorrow, though, and i'll be back at my house on wednesday night after volleyball, so i only have a few more days of "parenting" as i like to call my dog-sitting experience. it almost brings a tear to my eye. almost.
