Being a good person can be fun
Jun. 21st, 2005 12:11 pmOn Thursday, my new roommate came home with about 10 bags of hotdog and hamburger buns. Well, that can't be wasted, that is too much food. So I bought it to work and then Laura and I got to cookin. Well, not so much cookin as sandwich makin. The groups that left on Friday had left a bunch of sandwich fixings: chicken, cheese, ham, mayo, mustard, ketchup, hot dogs, peanut butter, jelly, etc. So, Laura and I made about 60 bagged lunches. Each one had a PB&J and then one other kind of sandwich (meat or cheese or hotdog). Then we found pudding cups and put one in each bag with a spoon and napkin. Then we took our 60 lunches and hopped on the metro. We went to McPherson Square and then Chinatown and handed out 60 bagged lunches to homeless people on the streets. It took us almost three hours to make the lunches and less than an hour to hand out all 60 of them. I don't know if that makes me glad we were able to feed so many people or sad that there are that many people on the streets who need lunches.
